Late Night, Early Morning?

Well it's about 4:40am and I can't sleep, but just sitting and reading is not what I want to do at the moment. So why not fool around with some make-up?  I've been playing around with different make up looks all night/morning. I even went for the white eyeliner + black liner duo to open up my eyes. Oh! And let's not forget the power of the perfect red lipstick. Because I have large lips and its my best facial feature, I always accentuate them. If you have beautiful big eyes or just a unique eye color, accentuate it. Try some bold eye make up to make your eyes stand out of the crowd.

VMA's: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

The 2013 MTV Music Video Awards red carpet was definitely a night filled with astonishment, from shocking performances to eye catching fashions.

The red carpet is the place to impress, some stars rise to the occasion while others drown in whatever mistake they decided to showcase for the night.

THE GOOD!

Lady Gaga surprised us by starting the night out with a more subtle look. Lady Gaga struts the carpet in a black Prabal Gurung dress.

Girls' actress Allison Williams showcased a pretty Valentino frock. There is no doubt that Allison Williams is a style icon on and off the TV screen.

Personally, Holland Roden stole the show in this voluminous gown by Naeem Khan.

Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace. After taking home the award for Best Pop Video, its clear that this Disney Star has grown up and become an elegant young woman while still showing a little sex appeal.

Taylor Swift decided to channel a little Marilyn Monroe that night in this figure-hugging Hervé Léger dress. Simple, but a show stopper.

The young Victoria Secret Model, Chanel Iman conquered the red carpet wearing a metallic lace gown with long sleeves and a plunging neckline by J. Mendel.

Jennifer Hudson wore a leather dress by Dior, showing us her lovely curves.

Ellie Goulding in a spike-studded Amato Couture by Furne One dress and Brian Atwood pumps

Top model Joan Smalls paired her Viktor & Rolf dress with strappy leather Casadei sandals

THE BAD!

Sarah Hyland wore a dress by Marchesa. First off, Sarah Hyland is a beautiful young actress but the dress does absolutely nothing for her figure. Its a shredded mess.

Okay Rihanna actually looks great, the outfit is perfect! But not perfect for a Red Carpet Event. I would of loved to see her more dressed up.

Top model Erin Wasson wowshowed up in this sheer design by Alexandre Vauthier and a Givenchy turban. On the runway this is art but on the red carpet there's not much there, literally. But we have to admit, we all wish we looked that good when wearing nothing.

Rapper Lil' Kim, reminding us that even the rich and famous can look that bad. Where is this woman's stylist?

THE UGLY!

Miley Cyrus in vintage Dolce & Gabbana, I'm not a fan of the outfit.

Let's just say that this years VMAs wasn't Miley's best nights out.

Lady Gaga; Taking Art and Music to a New Level

Music Video: Applause

MTV VMA 2013 Performance - Applause

Despite what others may think about Lady Gaga, I think her music is fantastic, but her music is not the only thing that I love, it is her ability to combine great art movements and other Culture references to her fashion and music. Below is a link to a small article that points out every cultural reference in her new music video. Go check it out!

Every Cultural Reference You Probably Didn’t Catch In Lady Gaga’s New Video

Crafty Inspiration

Like anyone else who can't sleep at 2am, I was surfing the internet and I came across this little D.I.Y guide on how to make a bracelet out of a wire hanger. I decided to give it a try and here is what I came up with. I also made two other bracelets; a beaded one and a simple chain bracelet.

Flea Market Deals!

I just got back from a wonderful surprise trip to Ogunquit Maine, and on the way there we saw a huge Flea Market that we just HAD to to stop and check out. Needless to say I found a pretty awesome deal while I was there. With my stubborn attitude I haggle my way to a $10 bordeaux(wine) colored leather bag! It's the perfect color for fall and I can't wait to pair it with a trench coat and heeled boots.

All Wrapped up, didn't want to take the wrapping off right away.
It also came with it's own wallet. It detaches so whenever I need just a little wrist bag, I can use this. Perfect for night outs!
Did I mention that this purse is huge? I can fit my laptop and anything else I need, it's like Mary Poppins magical travel bag!

Next time you find yourself in need for a good bargain, seek out a good Flea Market in your area, you never know what you might find. Whether it's funky jewelry, shoes, purses, or even some old objects you could re-purpose and get crafty with, Flea Markets are definitely worth a look.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

Phillip Lim has certainly become a rising star within the fashion industry, in 2005 he co-founded his own clothing line called 3.1 Phillip Lim. Since then, Phillip has been awarded for both his womenswear and menswear and has received much praise from Vogue. But Vogue editors are not they only ones who've noticed Lim's great talent, Target has made Lim their next high-fashion partner. The capsule collection will hit stores on September 15 and consist of more than 100 timeless basics, including trenchcoats, breezy blouses, cozy sweaters, printed scarves, moto jackets, trousers, duffel bags, vinyl purses, shoes, and more for men and women.

The icing on top? Prices that range from $20 to $300. Hopefully Lim's feminine pieces will translate well into Target-friendly products, and the store will continue to stay a leader in well-executed high-low collaborations. See the clothes in action and watch the video preview of his line, below

So start marking you calenders and begin the count down because on September 15 this long awaited collection will land in stores and online!

Forecasting Fashion

Darker hues are almost invariably the domain of the colder months, but this Fall/Winter season we are straying away from the mundane and seeing a livelier color spectrum. So what's exactly does this fashion forecast have in store for us?

Base Colors
These neutrals are usually the core colors in every Fall/Winter season, you can never go wrong with basics.

Cool Colors

From deep greens to Mykonos blues, these color trends take you to a Grecian getaway.

Warm Colors

Who said fall fashion needed to be dark and dreary? Designers kicked it up a knock this season and displayed some vibrant colors in their collections.

Shoes Speak Louder than Words

The saying goes; "keep your standards high and your heels higher." But lets not forget that a pair of killer heels is not the only weapon we need in our arsenal. With the perfect pair of flats, we can stop anyone in their tracks!

I have been obsessing over the Jenni Kayne D'Orsay flats for a while now and it's certainly not hard to see why. The style of the show is simple and chic, the seams add minimalist appeal, while a contoured heel cup and vamp cradle the foot. Plus they come in pretty colors, styles, and prints!
These versatile D'Orsay flats have become a fashion favorite. From Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, and Mandy Moore, these stylish flats are no strangers to the Hollywood stars. Needless to say I've online stalked these flats for months but the designer price tag does not match my broke college student budget, so unless I can barter for them with some ramen noddle soup and shower shoes I don't think I'm buying a pair for quit some time.

Just because I can't afford actual D'Orsay flats doesn't mean I can't be fashion forward. It just means I have to look for great alternative, and I happened to find that cheaper alternative at Charlotte Russe today. I got them for only $20.00 compared to the average $400-500 price tag of D'Orsay flats.

So ladies, for this fall season I think its time to put aside your stilettos and trade them in for some flats. With these new shoes you'll be ready to show off your street style anytime!

The ART of Fashion; Outfits Inspired by Great Works of Art

Fashion is an ever changing industry, and designers are constantly looking for the inspiration which will launch a new movement. Whether it is sculptures, paintings, architecture or even taxidermy, fashion designers have examined every square inch of it for a little inspiration to put into their next collection. The point is that each and everyone of us can do the same, with our own personal style we pull from literature, history, past decades and art. My love for art and history has definitely made it's mark on my wardrobe. By adding vintage and uniquely bold items I've created something I am proud to call my own. So lets take a look at a few great masters of the arts to help with our own styling inspiration.

What Elements To Take From Art?

Art isn't always so clear in it's meaning, and sometimes as the viewer we have no idea what the artist was trying to convey. But we give a smile to the museum tour guide and appreciate the art anyways. For our own purposes we want to look for these key elements when putting together outfits from our favorite paintings;
  1. Colors schemes
  2. Subject of the painting or sculpture
  3. The era in which the painting was made
  4. Type of painting; Impressionism, realism, abstract, modern, etc.

Edgar Degas was a French painter. He is best identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers. He is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, although he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist. With his beautiful experimentation of color and form, it's not hard for us to pull inspiration from. Take his subject of dancers for insistence, the modern ballerina look showcases style and grace. Though ballet may not be for everyone, most can agree that it's a visual delight.

Noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other art subjects, Gustav Klimt was one of the most prominent symbolist painters. His gold technique and Byzantine imagery is something we can incorporate into our fashion. Creating a lavishly chic look.

Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. It is this that gives Matisse the recognition as one of the leading figures in modern art. His art work spans three different art styles/movements; Fauvism, Modernism, and Impressionism. The vivid colors and bohemian Paris themes are what stands out the most for the fashionista in all of us.

Dutch post-Impressionist painter, Vincent van Gogh had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His art work was notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, but his work only became famous and appreciated after his death. We know him best for his beautiful sunflower and the painting Starry Night. Van Gogh's paintings exhibit freedom and emotion at it's purist of forms, and that is what we can take from his work.
