Despite what others may think about Lady Gaga, I think her music is fantastic, but her music is not the only thing that I love, it is her ability to combine great art movements and other Culture references to her fashion and music. The ART of Fashion; Outfits Inspired by Great Works of Art

Fashion is an ever changing industry, and designers are constantly looking for the inspiration which will launch a new movement. Whether it is sculptures, paintings, architecture or even taxidermy, fashion designers have examined every square inch of it for a little inspiration to put into their next collection. The point is that each and everyone of us can do the same, with our own personal style we pull from literature, history, past decades and art. My love for art and history has definitely made it's mark on my wardrobe. By adding vintage and uniquely bold items I've created something I am proud to call my own. So lets take a look at a few great masters of the arts to help with our own styling inspiration.

What Elements To Take From Art?

Art isn't always so clear in it's meaning, and sometimes as the viewer we have no idea what the artist was trying to convey. But we give a smile to the museum tour guide and appreciate the art anyways. For our own purposes we want to look for these key elements when putting together outfits from our favorite paintings;

1. Colors schemes
2. Subject of the painting or sculpture
3. The era in which the painting was made
4. Type of painting; Impressionism, realism, abstract, modern, etc.

Edgar Degas was a French painter. He is best identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers. He is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, although he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist. With his beautiful experimentation of color and form, it's not hard for us to pull inspiration from. Take his subject of dancers for insistence, the modern ballerina look showcases style and grace. Though ballet may not be for everyone, most can agree that it's a visual delight.

Noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other art subjects, Gustav Klimt was one of the most prominent symbolist painters. His gold technique and Byzantine imagery is something we can incorporate into our fashion. Creating a lavishly chic look.

Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. It is this that gives Matisse the recognition as one of the leading figures in modern art. His art work spans three different art styles/movements; Fauvism, Modernism, and Impressionism. The vivid colors and bohemian Paris themes are what stands out the most for the fashionista in all of us.

Dutch post-Impressionist painter, Vincent van Gogh had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His art work was notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, but his work only became famous and appreciated after his death.We know him best for his beautiful sunflower and the painting Starry Night. Van Gogh's paintings exhibit freedom and emotion at it's purist of forms, and that is what we can take from his work. 

My Geeky Obsessions

Besides my love for fashion and clothes, I am a (Cultural) Anthropology major and a theatre minor. In other words I grew up with people labeling me as a "nerd" and a "geek", but I absolutely love being both those thing! Plus no one ever said nerds/geeks MUST be unfashionable. Combining your geeky obsessions with style means you can have your cake AND eat it too!

There is most definitely an infinite reason why leggings are a girls best friend when it comes to her wardrobe, but the lead reason for this particular pair is the fact that the entire Shakespearean play, Hamlet, is printed on them! Did I mention I'm a theatre minor? Yea I am obsessed.
